B.A.S.L.P. or Bachelor in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology is an undergraduate Audiology programme. The Course includes Speech pathology, Language Pathology and Audiology. The allied subjects are linguistics, Electronics, Acoustics, Psychology and Statistics. The basic medical subjects that prepare the foundation in the clinical competence are Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and the specialized medical subjects are Otolaryngology, Neurology, and Paediatrics. The duration of the BASLP Programme shall extend over six Semesters of coursework (three academic years) plus two Semesters (one academic year) of an internship. Each semester shall consist of 16 weeks of study (excluding the time spent for the conduct of the final examination of each semester).

M.Sc. Audiology or Master of Science in Audiology is a postgraduate Audiology course. Audiology is the branch of science that studies hearing, balance, and related disorders. Its practitioners, who treat those with hearing loss and proactively prevent related damage, are audiologists. The duration of Master of Science in Audiology is mostly of two academic years, but it may vary from institute to institute and also may be on a part-time basis by certain institutes. The syllabus for the course is divided into four semesters and it is career orienting one that opens many job scopes for them after its completion.

M.Sc. (Speech-Language Pathology) []

M.Sc. Speech Language Pathology or Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology is a postgraduate Speech Therapy course. Speech-language pathology is concerned with normal and disordered human communication and swallowing. Students are prepared to assume varied professional responsibilities including the assessment, treatment, and management of speech, voice, language, and swallowing disorders. Course works and clinical internships are integrated and sequenced. The duration of the course is two years and its syllabus is divided into four semesters and it is also career orienting in nature.

Ph.D. Audiology or Doctor of Philosophy in Audiology is doctorate course. Ph.D. degree programs are intended to prepare students for academic and research careers. Candidates work closely with a mentor in a specific research area, while still earning a broad, scientific education in audiology. The programme aims at increasing the quality and quantity of research in Audiology and Hearing Sciences. The areas include auditory physiology, psychophysics, speech perception, diagnostic Audiology, Rehabilitation Audiology, Industrial and Forensic Audiology, Educational Audiology, Paediatric and Geriatric Audiology.

The Ph.D. program in Speech-Language Pathology consists of academic, research, and clinical experiences, with an emphasis on basic and applied science. Sponsorship of the Ph.D. student by a faculty member must be agreed upon prior to the time of enrollment. Interested students should contact the department to match with a faculty sponsor prior to applying.

About College

The All India Institute of Speech and Hearing was established in the year 1966 as an autonomous institute fully funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.The major objectives of the institute are to impart professional training, render clinical services, conduct research and educate the public on issues related to communication disorders such as hearing impairment, mental retardation, voice, fluency and phonological and language disorders.

The institute started with one post-graduate program in the year 1965 and now offers many courses including one Certificate course, 3 Diploma programs (Diploma in Hearing Aid & Earmould Technology, Diploma in Training Young Hearing Impaired Children and Diploma in Hearing Language and Speech-through distance mode); 2 undergraduate programs (B.Sc. in Speech & Hearing and B.S.Ed - Hearing-Impairment); PG Diploma programs in Clinical Linguistics and Forensic Speech Science and Technology; 3 post-graduate courses (M.Sc. in Audiology, M.Sc. in Speech-Language Pathology and M.S.Ed-Hearing-Impairment). The Institute offers Ph.D programs in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and also Post-Doctoral Fellowships.

Situated in a lush green campus of 32 acres adjacent to the University of Mysore in Manasagangothri, Mysore, it is a unique institute in the Asian sub-continent with its eleven departments and a well equipped Library and Information Centre. These departments have state-of-the-art facilities to offer inter-disciplinary training to the students.
