M. Tech Plastic technology is a specialized branch of study which includes the study of diverse types of chemicals that exhibits plasticity. Because of its exclusive properties, the plastics are used in many different areas like for packaging, containers, automobile parts, plastic industries, etc. Plastics engineering encompasses the processing, design, development, and manufacture of plastics products. A plastic is a polymeric material that is in a semi-liquid state, having the property of plasticity and exhibiting flow. The nature of plastic materials poses unique challenges to an engineer.
M.E. Computer aided design and Computer Aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) is a 2 year post graduate course .The course aim at building drafting skills in electronic structures. CAD/CAM engineering is a specialization in operation, use and application of computer software to create design for a variety of industries. M. Tech in CAD/CAM imparts, through a holistic curriculum, skills to apply computer and scientific principles to solve problems related to manufacturing. Learning the discipline at an advanced level with ample knowledge of computer- based tools, techniques and methods employed in product- designing may opt for this program.
B. Tech. in Plastic Technology is a 4-year undergraduate program offered by universities/institutes in the field of plastic technology. Plastics engineering encompasses the processing, design, development, and manufacture of plastics products. A plastic is a polymeric material that is in a semi-liquid state, having the property of plasticity and exhibiting flow. The nature of plastic materials poses unique challenges to an engineer.
B. E. Manufacturing technology is a 4 years course graduate degree program which provides the tools that enable production of all manufactured goods. Machine tools are non-portable, power driven manufacturing machinery and systems used to perform specific operations on man-made materials to produce durable goods or components.
Diploma in Plastics Technology is a Diploma level Plastics Technology course. Participants of the course are exposed to different mechanisms used in preparation and characterization of plastic material. They get knowledge about the usage of different machinery and processes employed in the production process.
The diploma in Plastics Mould Technology is a 3 year course that students can join after completion of their 10th standard or equivalent. Mould designers are trained to use computer-aided design (CAD) software and technologies to create plastic mould designs used in the manufacturing of a variety of items.
Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET) was established in 1968 by Government of India with the assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at Chennai. The main objective of setting up of the institute was to develop manpower in different disciplines of Plastics Engineering & Technology as no similar institute was in existence in the country. International Labour Organization (ILO) served as the executing agency. During the initial project period between 1968 and 1973, the institute achieved the targets envisaged and was rated as one of the most successful UNDP projects implemented worldwide. Today CIPET is a premier national institution under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India fully devoted to Skill Development, Technology Support Services, Academic and Research (STAR) in all the domains of plastics viz:- Design, CAD/CAM/CAE, Tooling & Mould Manufacturing, Plastics processing, Testing and Quality Assurance. CIPET operates from various locations spread across the country catering the needs of Polymer and allied industries.
Post-independence, it became a matter of concern that Plastic Engineering & Technology was a growing science and yet there was not enough human resource to meet the demand. Imperative need was felt to establish CIPET -- the unique institute of its kind in the country and even today the institute holds a premier position. The primary objective of CIPET has been contributing towards the growth of the plastics industry through a combined program of education and research. The Institute has evolved through the years, creating closer ties with industries with the intent to create innovative plastic based solutions which are resource efficient and marketable.
From our first location in Chennai, we now have 37 locations and 5 more are in the process of Establishment. Every campus offers state-of-art facilities, turning out alumni with an innovative mind set and an entrepreneurial spirit. Our campuses are workshops for inventing the future, where students work with award winning faculty and experts to translate learning and research into action.
Campus is located at Guindy Industrial Estate - one of the industrial hubs of the Chennai City. The campus is well connected by all means of transport. Nearest Airports viz; Kamaraj Domestic Airport and Anna International Airport are at a distance of 10 kms. from the campus. The nearest suburban railway station is Guindy which is connected with Madras Central Railway station. The nearest Metro Station Ekkatuthangal is adjacent to the campus. City Public Transport bus services connecting all parts of the city are available at the campus entrance.
The centre has state-of-the-art laboratories, class rooms, various departments, library, cafeteria, hostel, etc. The centre is an ISO 9001: 2015 certified institution for its Academic and Technology Support Services and the Plastics Testing Centre is accredited by NABL as per ISO/IEC 17025:2005 for Quality Control and Testing of raw materials and products of plastics.
