Bachelor of Education is a 2 year Undergraduate Academic Degree awarded for a course or a program in the field of Education. It is popularly known as B.Ed. which is an abbreviated form of the Education Degree. The Bachelor of Education qualifies a student to become a teacher in a school.
MA Education is a 2 year postgraduate education course. M.A. Education is basically a theoretical course which focuses on the basic knowledge of theory and practice of educational thought and processes accumulated around the discipline of education. It encompasses a series of BASIC subjects which are designed in a way to cover basics of all the areas of educational concern and many Advanced Courses (Theoretical or Applied) in areas demanding specialization of one or the other kind, followed by Research Dissertation. M.A. (Education) is not the same as M.Ed., though the terminology is alike; both are different and have their own prerequisites; however, the course contents are almost alike.
Ph.D. Education is a 3 – 4 year doctoral course. The doctoral Program in Education aims to develop skills, educational research and enquiry and to use these in order to carry out research that will contribute to professional knowledge and practice. The requirement of the degree includes coursework to develop the knowledge and get expertise in both qualitative and quantitative methods to conduct a high quality research. The department has highly qualified and vibrant faculty members committed to impart high-quality research in the field of Education.
College of Education was established under A. Shama Rao Foundation from 20th December 2004 in its campus located at Pandeshwar, Mangalore. The College has been approved by NCTE recognized by the Government of Karnataka and was affiliated to Mangalore university for about 13 years. It had record of scoring more than 15 ranks with first rank twice and 100% results throughout under Mangalore University.
Now, the college is under Srinivas University as College of Education since 2018, has the aim of developing dynamic teachers who can take up the responsibility of moulding the students and their life to become responsible citizens. The college imparts innovative and qualitative professional education to the aspiring teachers through modern, sophisticated techniques of teaching yet without losing the flavour of traditional teaching methodology. The First batch of B.Ed programme under Srinivas University for the 2018 has been successfully commenced from the month of March.
