Bachelor of Ayurvedic medicine and surgery (BAMS) is a 5.5 years graduate degree that study the integrated system of modern medicine and traditional Ayurveda. BAMS course covers an exhaustive investigation of current life structures, physiology, social and preventive pharmaceuticals, toxicology, herbal science, ENT, standards of surgery, and alike to coach students with the normal methods in modern science. The course includes the study and application of natural herbs and its medicine within the field of health science. MD in Dravya-Guna is a 2 year postgraduate non-clinical course in Ayurvedic medicine, aiming an advanced study of medicinal herbs and drugs, their origin, nature, properties, and effects upon human beings. It’s the science of herbal plants. It can be correlated with the discipline of Pharmacology in modern medicine. The word 'Dravya" means 'drug'. The word 'Guna' means 'properties', Therefore, the term 'Dravyaguna ' means the science that deals with the study of the properties of drugs.
Students are trained with the details of drug identification, pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, evaluation of pharmacological activities, in depth details of Ayurvedic treatises on medicinal plants. MD in Kayachikitsa is 3 year postgraduate clinical course, imparts training in the division of General Medicine in Ayurveda. M.S. Shalya Tantra is a 3 year postgraduate Ayurvedic medical course, mainly focus on areas like Wound Management, Fracture Healing, Ano-Rectal Diseases, and Urinary Disorders. Students are taught of ancient surgical procedures which explains in clinical, treatises, and surgical applications of various treatment modalities, treatment of chronic diseases, practical training with blood-letting through leeches, successful treatment for piles and fistula, and surgical procedures on patients.
