Bachelor of Ayurvedic medicine and surgery (BAMS) is a 5.5 years graduate degree that study the integrated system of modern medicine and traditional Ayurveda. BAMS course covers an exhaustive investigation of current life structures, physiology, social and preventive pharmaceuticals, toxicology, herbal science, ENT, standards of surgery, and alike to coach students with the normal methods in modern science. The course includes the study and application of natural herbs and its medicine within the field of health science. Ayurveda is one among the oldest systems of drugs and traces its roots to Vedic times. The study support the curative properties of herbs and its medicines known for the natural elements that they contain.
Considered as an alternate method of treatment, the Ayurveda medicine system not only cures and prevents an ailment but also reduces the frequency with which diseases enter a person's body. It utilises the self-healing system of the body. Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) is the responsible body for admission to Ayurveda education at undergraduate as well as postgraduate level and for practice Ayurvedic medicine in India.
M.D. in Rachana Sharira is a 3 year postgraduate ayuvedic course that deals with the structure of a human body, its applied aspects . Dissection of human body forms a basis for this . Marma or vital points of human body is an important aspect dealt here. It finds its parallel in modern discipline of human anatomy. Sharira Rachana not only deals with structural study but also deals with how a better one can reproduce. The course teaches constitution of body according to the panchabhuta system, embryological and genetic considerations, anthropometry, various body tissues, organs and vital points as described in ayurveda.
Students are able to describe the details of fertilization; sex determination and differentiation; organogenesis and the human body in terms of dosha, dhatu & mala and apply these concepts in clinical diagnosis and practice. The human body is made up of two parts - Manas Sharir and Sthula Sharir. These two are site of diseases, so it is very essential to know about human body itself. Knowledge of human body is the very first step in the world of medical science.
M.S. Shalya Tantra is a 3 year postgraduate Ayurvedic medical course, mainly focus on areas like Wound Management, Fracture Healing, Ano-Rectal Diseases, and Urinary Disorders. Students are taught of ancient surgical procedures which explains in clinical, treatises, and surgical applications of various treatment modalities, treatment of chronic diseases, practical training with blood-letting through leeches, successful treatment for piles and fistula, and surgical procedures on patients.
This study deals with the surgical techniques, diagnosis of the surgical disorders, and surgical emergency management also demonstrates and explains surgical procedures and its knowledge that was performed and used before. In this course, student’s aims to include evaluating and discovering drug compounds, studying dosage requirements, identifying possible interactions with other medicines and discovering the possible side effects of the medicines.
M.S. in Prasuti Tantra & Streeroga is a 3 year postgraduate course that provides training in Ayurvedic Gynecology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics. Prasuti tantra deals with pregnancy, labour and puerperium and Streeroga deals with management of diseases manifesting specially in women. The program offers theoretical and practical knowledge in Gynecology and Obstetrics, management of antenatal and postnatal care, common gynecological problems and menopausal syndrome to utilize the techniques of female health care and to achieve a healthy baby.
M.D in Panchakarma is a 3 year postgraduate program in Ayurveda specialized in Panchakarma. Panchkarma is a study that deals with the five modes of the detoxification process, used to treat illness using the method of Ayurveda. Candidates are taught theory and get real-time practice gain relevance about the principles of Shodhana or Bio-Purification method, training them to become professional research scholars, Ayurvedic physician or a surgeon contributing their services to the field of medical and health science.
MD in Dravya-Guna is a 3 year postgraduate non-clinical course in Ayurvedic medicine, aiming an advanced study of medicinal herbs and drugs, their origin, nature, properties, and effects upon human beings. It’s the science of herbal plants. It can be correlated with the discipline of Pharmacology in modern medicine. The word 'Dravya" means 'drug'. The word 'Guna' means 'properties', Therefore, the term 'Dravyaguna ' means the science that deals with the study of the properties of drugs.
Students are trained with the details of drug identification, pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, evaluation of pharmacological activities, in depth details of Ayurvedic treatises on medicinal plants. M.D in Rasa-Shastra is a 2 year postgraduate program, the program basically focuses on the science of combining various metals and other substances with herbs to alleviate disorders from the diseased and help people to stay healthy and vibrant. Rasa-Shastra is a specialized branch of Ayurveda, which is designed to deal with the preparation of mineral and inorganic-based drugs in order to treat various diseases. It is the study of combination of certain minerals and metals including mercury with herbs and their properties, and therapeutic uses. During the course, students learn about the useful properties of metals, like copper, mercury, gold, silver, and such which when combined with different herbs, help in eliminating disorders like eye diseases, increasing fat metabolism, jaundice, hepatitis, etc. and keep a person healthy. Rasa Shastra is faster than other ayurvedic branches.
