The very definition of Industrial Design encompasses the design of any three-dimensional object, spaces etc. which has to go through a manufacturing / industrial production process for its realization for human use.
The students are subjected to learn and apply both traditional & advanced digital techniques to the ideation of a wide range of products and spaces while gaining a knowledge of both materials and production processes.
The traditional models of teaching ‘Visual Communication’ or ‘Communication Design’ have always looked at & treated its ‘Components’ such as Graphic Design, Film and Video, Animation as stand-alone entities. However, in the current context, especially, when it comes to ‘using’ these components, they are never ‘stand-alone’; instead they are used in a mix-n-match manner- that too in various technology platforms – leading to a better ‘visual & Interaction experience’.
Designing ‘objects of desire- with lifestyle statements’ (for example, the products out of ‘Handicraft’ and ‘Handloom’) though have been there in the Indian market for a reasonably long time (in fact, significant number of these are seeing good success in the export market), never there have been any ‘structured model’ of teaching this to the prospective and passionate candidates.
Such products range from 3-Dimensional Objects of Art Forms out of mixed material to 2-Dimensional products like Paintings, fabrics out of mixed material etc.
Expeditious globalization has created vivacity and variety in multi-cultural design ideas that require application of critical design thinking in creation and innovation of marketable products.
PG Program on Strategic Innovation & Design will equip the students with the knowledge of ‘how to strategize an invention to innovation plan for most optimum impact in a target market or for a to-be-developed market – with two essential tools – that is
1. A strategically planned design process
2. The process of Business Design
In an interdisciplinary manner to impart the ability of designing business processes and techniques that are integrated with user research, entrepreneurial skill, experimental learning, supported by scientific & holistic understanding.
PG Program in User Interaction & Experience Design would address at the user interaction & experience Design needs of the upcoming and to-be-innovated digital and interactive physical products and systems (including those which are IoT and AI enabled) – platforms ranging from mobile, web based, to gaming, education, healthcare, transportation, banking, retail and other domains (including smart homes and industrial settings).
