Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institutions, made a foray into the academic domain, with the establishment of Sri Ram Institute of Computer Science and Technology in 1985. The munificent founder of Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Science and Technology (PRIST), Prof. P. Murugesan, began his service to higher education in this predominantly agricultural area by starting Ram Institute of Computer Science and Technology in the year 1985. At that time, his very purpose of starting that institute was to introduce Computer Education for the first time in Thanjavur District. In 1988, the Institute got affiliation from Bharathidasan University to offer Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Computer Applications.
Prompted by the encouragement and support extended by parents, students and public, he established Ponnaiyah Ramajayam College affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, in the year 1994, in memory of his father Sri Ponnaiyah and his mother Smt. Ramajayathammal. Within a very short span of time, the college earned goodwill, fame and reputation from all its stakeholders for its quality teaching and discipline.
