School of Engineering was established in 1978 for offering part-time M.Tech.Programmes in the major deciplines of engineering viz.Civil, Mechanical,Electrical and Chemical Enginnering for practicing engineers in and around Cochin.Research activities were introduced in 1981 with Ph.D. Programmes.The School introduced B.Tech. Progrmmes in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Enginnering and Information Technology in 1995, which turnes out to be a milestone in the growth of the School.B.Tech. in Safety and Fire Engineering was added in 1996. A five-year integrated M.Sc. Programm in Software Engineering was startes in 2001.
School of Engineering has been well accepted as research centre. A number of research projects have been sanctioned to the School by agencies like DSDT,Centeral Water Commission, ISRO, AICTE, Coir Board, Kerala State Coir Corporation, etc.These have helped to establish fullly equiped laboratories and promote rearch activities.The M.E. (by research) prrogramme was intoduced in 2001 in arious disciplines. The research community of the School has published papers in international/national level journals
