M.Tech Environmental Engineering is a 2-year full-time postgraduate course, designed to offer to eligible candidates specialization in a wide range of management of water resources, land or air pollution, while at the same time building competence in a particular area of business. The program aims to train students competent business acumen through advanced study of Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Microbiology, Computational Methods, Water Supply Management, Waste Water Management, Municipal Water Treatment, Industrial Water Treatment, Applied Statistics for Environmental Engineering, Environmental Impact Assessment, Industrial Pollution Prevention, Air Pollution Control, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, Remote Sensing and GIS Application, Ecological Engineering, Environmental Biotechnology , later allowing them to specialize in a chosen area.
M.Tech Structural Engineering is a 2-year full-time postgraduate course which involves advanced study of components like Structural Mechanics, Finite Element Analysis, Structural Dynamics, Structural Reliability and Optimization, Reinforced and Pre-Stressed Concrete, Steel Structures, Design for Wind And Earthquake, Tall Buildings And Towers, Computer Applications In Structural Engineering, etc. Students are trained to implement such principles through different methods, in analyses of varied sorts of structures, and to gauge force and displacement parameters of such structures.
Doctoral Degree in Civil Engineering is a 3 – 5 year course which prepares students to acquire a systematic and critical understanding of a complex field of learning and specialised research skills in core aspects of Civil engineering to advance learning and/or professional practice. Areas of research includes Mining engineering, geomechanics, structural engineering, transport and traffic engineering, water resources and environmental engineering and many more.
The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 1984 and currently offers B.Tech. programme in Civil Engineering and M.Tech. Programme in Structural Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Besides, the department also offers Ph.D. programmes in all disciplines of Civil Engineering. The department has grown tremendously over the past thirty years and is now recognized as one of the major engineering departments in KARE. The department has excellent infrastructure with ICT enabled, smart and video capturing class rooms, well established laboratories, department library, Seminar halls, and Lecture halls. The department houses Faculty members with PhD degree from NUS, IITs, Anna University and reputed institutions and foreign exposure in structural, environmental, water resources, transportation and construction engineering & management. The Department of Civil Engineering puts all efforts to create incomparable civil engineers using advanced teaching practises and learning aids for undergraduate students and state of the art research facilities for postgraduate students and doctoral candidates.
Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education was established in 1984 by the Kalasalingam Anandam Ammal Charities."Kalvivallal" Thiru T. Kalasalingam, veteran freedom fighter, was the founder chairman. It was granted deemed to be university status in 2006. In November 2017, following a directive by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to drop the "University" from the name it was renamed Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education. Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education is situated at Krishnankoil, 65 kilometres south of Madurai and 10 kilometres north of Srivilliputhur, in Madurai-Shenkottah National Highway (NH208). The location is at the foothills of the Western Ghats in a rural setting of Virudhunagar District. The Deemed to be University sporting facilities include an athletic track, basketball courts, tennis courts and a football ground. The campus is WiFi enabled and available with a SunFire 4800 enterprise server, a SunFire T1000 server, six IBM Blade servers, four Wipro rack servers, six desktop servers (from HP and HCL), and nine TB of storage for the computing and storage needs of the faculty and students. The central server farm includes file servers, a database server, a mail server, a web server, a backup server, a proxy server, and an e-learning server.
