M.Sc. Environment Science and Disaster Management is a 2 year postgraduate Environmental Management course. Disaster management is a process or strategy that is implemented before, during or after any type of catastrophic event takes place. The Master's programme is designed to include thematic and issue-based courses related to aspects such as the relationship between environment, livelihood and disasters, institutional building and governance, inequalities and social exclusion, local knowledge systems and disaster management. It covers the disaster management topic which is the generic name of an interdisciplinary field. Disaster Management course is a strategic organizational management processes used to protect critical assets of an organization from hazard risks that can cause disasters or catastrophes, and to ensure the continuance of the organization within their planned lifetime.
M.Phil. Environmental Science is a 1 year course. M.Phil course in this domain is aimed at the detailed analysis and research on the topic with an aim to explore some new and sustainable solutions for the well being of our environment. Students are provided with a holistic view of the subject in a gradual and progressive manner so, as to allow them the time to understand the key concepts. The environment is defined as everything that surrounds us. The study of our surroundings and our relationship with it along with the respective effect of this relation is what that comes under the ambit of environmental studies. Since environmental pollution has been increasing on a gigantic scale in modern times various scientific and technical methods are being devised for its control. This collaboration of environment with science has given birth to a new domain of environmental science.
Ph.D Environmental Science is a 3-5 year course. The duration of the program is minimum of 3 years from the date of registration and maximum of 5 years. Environmental Science is a study of the environment (surrounding) in a chemical, biological and physical context. It is also a higher study of pollution, energy conservation, climatic changes, plastic menace, biodiversity and global warming. Environmental Science is a combination of both social science and natural science.
School of Environmental Sciences was brought into existence in 1995 as a Center of Learning in the frontier areas of Environmental Sciences. It is an effort by the University to give a new direction and dimension to fulfill the long-standing needs of the different sections of the society.
