A Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm) is a 4 year undergraduate degree in the field of pharmacy. This degree is a prerequisite for registration to practice as a pharmacist. The course trains students to understand the properties and impacts of medicines and developing the skills required to counsel patients about their use. B Pharm holders can work in several fields such as being a pharmacist, patient counselling, doing further studies such as master's degree, working in a university as a lecturer, or working as a drug information specialist. After the completion of this degree, the students can practice as a Pharmacist. Pharmacists can work in a range of industries related to the prescription, manufacture & provision of medicines.
M.Pharm. Pharmacy Practice or Master of Pharmacy in Pharmacy Practice is a postgraduate Pharmacy course. Pharmacy practice is the discipline of pharmacy which involves developing the professional roles of pharmacists. This course provides instruction in the technical procedures for preparing and dispensing drugs in the hospital and retail settings under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Topics include drug packaging and labeling, out-patient dispensing, hospital dispensing procedures, controlled substance procedures, inventory control, and non-sterile compounding. The duration of the course is two years and it beneficial in many areas as it is career originating in nature.
Pharm. D. is a 6- year doctorate level course, including five years of academic study and a year of internship or residency. The course aims to prepare eligible candidates students in the management of patient medication therapy and improving patient outcomes.
Pharm. D. (Post Baccalaureate) is a 3-year professional post-graduate course in the discipline of Pharmacy, open for pursuance by eligible graduates of Pharmacy, completed from an institute recognized by the PCI.
The course includes 1 compulsory year of residency or internship as well. The course is divided across two phases, of which the first phase includes theoretical study, and the second includes a residency/ internship program to be completed by enrolled students
Vels College of Pharmacy was started by the Vaels Educational Trust in the year 1992.
