MD in Dravya Guna is a 2-year full-time postgraduate course in medicine, involving an advanced study of the principles, qualities, actions, and therapeutic profiles of the food/ drug substances in Ayurveda. ... Therefore, the term 'Dravyaguna Vijnan' means the science that deals with the study of the properties of drugs.
MD in Kayachikitsa is a clinical course. The course imparts training in the division of General Medicine in Ayurveda. As a medical discipline, Kayachikitsa forms the basis of all other branches of Ayurvedic treatment, and hence lays the foundation for advanced skills in Ayurveda.
The program syllabus of MD of Ayurveda in Panchkarma concentrates on covering the five main aspects of Ayurveda which deals with five methods of Purification. The course deals with the various purification therapy and understanding the principles applied in preventing diseases and improving their immunity.
Doctor of Medicine in Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana (Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacy) is Non - Clinical course. Keeping with tradition, the course prepares students to an Ayurvedic physician who is capable of formulating and preparing medicines according to the specific needs of a patient. The program provides training in medicinal chemistry and preparation of highly potent medicines from minerals and metals.
Doctor of Medicine in Swasthavritta (Social and Preventative Medicine) is a Non - Clinical course. The program provides training on the principles and practice of Social and Preventive Medicine at both the personal and communal levels. Duration: Three years from the date of commencement of classes.
B.A.M.S. or Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery is an undergraduate Ayurvedic course which is awarded after successful completion of a five and a half years program or course that covers the study of the integrated system of modern medicine and traditional Ayurveda. The full 5½ years duration of the degree includes one year of internship also. The degree course covers the study of modern anatomy, physiology, principles of medicine, social and preventive medicine, pharmacology, toxicology, forensic medicine, botany, ENT, principles of surgery, etc. along with ayurvedic topics. Ayurvedacharya recognition is given to the recipient of a Bachelor’s Degree of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (B.A.M.S) and the degree holders can use the title Vaidyar before their name (abbreviated as Vr).
The founder president late Shri Jagadguru Gurusiddheswar Rajayogindra Mahaswamiji had a great faith in Ayurveda, which, in itself was a tremendous impetus for the then president Late Shri Jagadguru Dr. Gangadhar Rajayogindra Mahaswamiji and board of management of the society to start this Ayurvedic Medical College for the benefit of the needy rural students and suffering populous of the nearby areas.
The unstinted efforts put by Shri A.B. Patil. Ex –Minister and Ex- MLA, Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer and other well wishers of the Society, this college got established in the year 1996-97 with intake capacity of 25 students. Subsequently the intake strength has been increased to 40 students and also five Post Graduate (PG – MD/MS) Courses in Dravyaguna, Shalya Tantra, Shalakya Tantra, Kayachikitsa, Prasooti Tantra & Stree Roga running since 6 years. Our College is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore and permitted by Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi, and Department of AYUSH, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
From the year 2013-14 another Five PG Courses are upcoming in the subject of Kaumarbrithya, Panchakarma, Roganidhan & Vikriti Vignanan and Rasashastra & Bhaishagya Kalpana, Swasthavritta. The UG admission capacity will be increased from 40 to 50 seats from the academic Year 2013-14. The college is having all 14 departments as per CCIM norms with all laboratory, instruments, equipments, models and charts for teaching to the students. All necessary additional facilities has been provided for PG Courses.
A well established library containing more than 10000 books on different subjects, a rich specimen herbal garden sprawling over about 3 acres of land and separate hostel for boy’s and girl students with required facilities are available. All the facilities for indoor as well as out-door games have also been provided.
