Radiotherapy Technology (RTT) is a 3 year undergraduate Radiography course.  Radiotherapy may be used to treat localized solid tumours, such as cancers of the skin, tongue, larynx, brain, breast, or uterine cervix. It is a therapy using ionizing radiation. It is generally used as part of cancer treatment. In simple terms, the radiation is used to kill or control the growth of malignant cells in a specific part of the body or organ. The radiation alters the DNA structure of the malignant cells. Thus, it kills or restricts the growth of such harmful cells.

B.Sc Anaesthesia Technology (AT) []

The course is designed to prepare students to administer haemo-dialysis treatments for patients with renal failure, under the supervision of a nurse or physician. Dialysis technicians monitor and operate dialysis machinery, which removes waste and excess fluids from the blood of patients whose kidneys are no longer functioning properly. In addition to preparing patients and monitoring dialysis treatment, dialysis technicians also prepare post treatment reports. They also work on protocols for equipment evaluation and training materials for patients and staff. Dialysis technicians generally work under a physician or nurse's supervision, usually in a hospital, clinic or home-dialysis program.

About College

From its inception SJMC has been a truly National Medical College drawing faculty and students from all across the country. During the formative years the college benefitted immensely from the efforts of early pioneers with illustrious professional careers who gave up jobs in established medical institutions to join a fledgling medical college. 

Allied Health Science Courses at St. John's National Academy of Health Sciences, run as a wing of St. John's Medical College and makes use of the infrastructure and the teaching faculty of medical college. Over 20 different related departments encompassing the preclinical, para-clinical and clinical subjects, carry out the teaching and foster in-depth learning. The allied health science courses were started as a one year Diploma course in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) in 1974 with 10 seats a year. The two-year Diploma course in Radiology started in 1985 with 4 seats a year. Degree courses affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) were started in 1999 (B.Sc. in Medical laboratory technology, Medical Imaging technology, Renal Dialysis Technology and Cardiac Perfusion Technology).

The institution is an apex body of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) which is the largest non-governmental contributor to health care in India (with > 3500 member institutions throughout India). The corner stone of the Medical College was blessed by Pope Paul VI in Bombay during the Eucharist Congress in 1964 and was laid at the project site on 27 July 1965 by Shri V.V. Giri, the Governor of Karnataka and later the President of India. On the completion of the buildings, the College was dedicated to the cause of Medical Education, Research and Healthcare on 29 September 1968 at a ceremony presided over by the President of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain. In June 1968, the College moved from its temporary premises of St. Mary's Industrial School and Orphanage to its 140-acre campus in Koramangala, Bengaluru.

Initially St. Martha’s Hospital served as the clinical facility of the Medical College. In the year 1975, the newly constructed St. John’s Medical College Hospital became operational on the College Campus. St. John's College of Nursing started as a School of Nursing on July 1, 1980. It was raised to the status of a College of Nursing on September 25, 1989, and conducts various nursing courses. For the last ten years, St. John’s Medical College has consistently been ranked among the top 10 medical colleges in the country. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council, a Review Committee of the University Grants Commission, has recognized the excellence of St. John's Medical College and Hospital and accorded it with a 5 star grading.
