The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) is a 4 years undergraduate medical programme. Nursing education is monitored by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), the programme focus on developing critical care, advanced thinking skills, proficiency and values necessary for the practice of professional nursing and midwifery. The programme prepares students to become responsible citizens by following a code of moral values and conduct at all times while fulfilling personal, social and professional responsibilities. B. Sc. Nursing programme involves classroom study, projects and assignments that enable students to gain practical knowledge of their learning. After the completion of the course, the students compulsorily need to do a six-month internship to experience real-world clinical settings and learn from them.

General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) [GNM]

General Nursing and Midwifery or GNM is a three-year and six month diploma programme designed for aspirants who want to pursue a career in clinical nursing. The programme teaches candidates how to care for individuals who are sick or have been injured in order to help them attain full recovery. Although the curriculum design of the course varies from university to university, GNM courses are designed to prepare the students for clinical approach of handling patients. The curriculum of some universities includes a six-month internship at the end of the course and the diploma is granted only after the candidates complete this internship.

St. Martha’s Hospital was started in the year 1886 by Sisters of the Good Shepherd, a Congregation founded by St. MARY EUPHRASIA PELLITIER, in 1835 in ANGERS, FRANCE. It is an International congregation present in 74 countries with its Generalate in Rome. The congregation established its foundation in India in the year 1854 August 15th. The Charism of the congregation is to share the compassionate love of Jesus the Good Shepherd to those at the margins of the society especially with women and children. In India, the sisters work in nine states, expressing the Charism through education, health care, social work, care homes for street children, orphan babies, un-wed mothers and young girls, crisis intervention center, training and rehabilitation of migrants, child laborers and sex workers, prison ministry and pro-life. Health care is provided through the portals of St. Martha’s Hospital and dispensaries in remote villages. St. Martha’s Hospital began in 1886 on a piece of land gifted by the then Maharaja of Mysore in appreciation of the services rendered by the sisters of the Good Shepherd, during a time of famine and plague. St. Martha’s Hospital, a charitable institution, has been touching the lives of thousands of people for the last 130 long years.
