General Nursing and Midwifery or GNM is a three-year and six month diploma programme designed for aspirants who want to pursue a career in clinical nursing. The programme teaches candidates how to care for individuals who are sick or have been injured in order to help them attain full recovery. Although the curriculum design of the course varies from university to university, GNM courses are designed to prepare the students for clinical approach of handling patients. The curriculum of some universities includes a six-month internship at the end of the course and the diploma is granted only after the candidates complete this internship.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) is a 4 years undergraduate medical programme. Nursing education is monitored by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), the programme focus on developing critical care, advanced thinking skills, proficiency and values necessary for the practice of professional nursing and midwifery. The programme prepares students to become responsible citizens by following a code of moral values and conduct at all times while fulfilling personal, social and professional responsibilities. B. Sc. Nursing programme involves classroom study, projects and assignments that enable students to gain practical knowledge of their learning. After the completion of the course, the students compulsorily need to do a six-month internship to experience real-world clinical settings and learn from them.

M.Sc Medical Surgical Nursing []

About College

SR. DR. MARY VERONICA PITT, an Australian qualified Gynecologist, who joined the congregation of JMJ Society, started St. Philomena’s Hospital with a small group of JMJ sisters in 1937. Started as a small Health Center with 2 beds this slowly grew up to the present 400 bedded General hospital over the past 75 years. In 1951, Sr. Dr. Pitt started Midwifery Training for the under privileged girls in the locality. In 1965, this developed into Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery Training Center. In 1969, Sr. Marie De Montfort, the then Superior General, gifted a 100 bedded block for the poor. The Dr. Pitt’s medical center attracted people from all over the city, and the maternity department of the Hospital records shown more than 3000 births per year. The hospital has grown up to be a Post Graduate medical training center fulfilling the requirements for accreditation by the Royal College of OBG in UK & Diplomat of the National Board, New Delhi, India.
