Bachelor of Ayurvedic medicine and surgery (BAMS) is a 5.5 years graduate degree that study the integrated system of modern medicine and traditional Ayurveda. BAMS course covers an exhaustive investigation of current life structures, physiology, social and preventive pharmaceuticals, toxicology, herbal science, ENT, standards of surgery, and alike to coach students with the normal methods in modern science. The course includes the study and application of natural herbs and its medicine within the field of health science. Ayurveda is one among the oldest systems of drugs and traces its roots to Vedic times. The study support the curative properties of herbs and its medicines known for the natural elements that they contain.
Considered as an alternate method of treatment, the Ayurveda medicine system not only cures and prevents an ailment but also reduces the frequency with which diseases enter a person's body. Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) is the responsible body for admission to Ayurveda education at undergraduate as well as postgraduate level and for practice Ayurvedic medicine in India.
Medicinae Doctor (Ayurveda) or Ayurveda Vachaspati is the three-year master's course in the Indian medical system of Ayurveda. MD (Ayurveda) is offered in many medical colleges in India and Sri Lanka.
MD Ayurveda is a postgraduate level degree in medicine that deals with the recognition of different surgical techniques, surgical disorders, surgical emergency management, trauma, etc. The course provides knowledge of both modern and traditional surgical techniques.
Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College was founded by the late Ashtavaidyan E.T. Neelakandan Mooss on 2nd October 1976 and is under the management of Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Educational Society, registered under the Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII/1955. The College is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences and offers B.A.M.S. degree (Ayurveda acharya). The course is recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM) and is of duration of 5½ years. The sprawling campus accommodates administrative and academic blocks, hospitals, auditorium, herbal garden, hostels for men and women and facilities for sports and games.
